This publication accompanied the exhibition The Rhythm of Color: Alejandro Otero and Willys de Castro—Two Modern Masters in the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros that took place at the Aspen Institute in Aspen, Colorado (June–November 2006). The exhibition reveals parallel paths taken by artists Alejandro Otero and Willys de Castro. Alejandro Otero (1921–1990) was part of a group of Venezuelan artists known as Los Disidentes, recognized for taking art in a different direction. Willys de Castro (1926–1988), a Brazilian artist, was a founding member of São Paulo’s Concrete movement. The show exhibited forty-seven works from the two artists, providing an overview of their individual development. The works selected portray the artists’ similarities and divergences through the development of their work. The publication includes the essay "The Forms of Color" by Luis Pérez-Oramas, as well as biographical information about each of the artists.
