Liliana Porter in conversation with/en conversación con Inés Katzenstein, the seventh book in the Conversaciones/Conversations series, presents an engaging dialogue between Liliana Porter and Inés Katzenstein with an introductory essay by Gregory Volk. Porter describes with clarity and humor the ways in which her work blends the real with the representational, often in hypothetical yet convincing mini-dramas using mass-produced, kitsch objects that elicit both our compassion and our laughter.

Liliana Porter, born in Buenos Aires in 1941, has been exhibited internationally and is represented in many public and private collections. Using a wide range of media—including sculpture, printmaking, works on canvas, photography, video and installation—Porter playfully mixes the absurd with the philosophical to create extraordinary portrayals of everyday scenes and plights.

About the authors
Inés Katzenstein has been the founding director of the art department at the Universidad Torcuato di Tella, Buenos Aires since 2008. She was curator of the Argentine Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennial, and co-curator of the Zona Franca exhibition at the Mercosur Biennial in 2007. From 2004 to 2008 Katzenstein was a curator at MALBA–Fundación Constantini (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires).

Gregory Volk is a New York-based art critic and freelance curator and is also Associate Professor in both the Department of Sculpture + Extended Media and the Department of Painting + Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond.
