Open Call: Grant for Artist Residency in Macolla, Caracas (Open to Venezuelans)September 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017
Apply by September 30, 2017
Macolla Creative, in collaboration with the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection, (CPPC), announces an Artists’ Residency to be held in their space for 10 days in Caracas, Venezuela. For the first time the CPPC is offering a scholarship for an artist from the interior of Venezuela to participate in this residency in La Pastora (Caracas), whose objective is to develop a model for the artistic production and promotion aimed at self-management and intended to promote artistic practice as a way of life, of research and training sustained by the permanent work of the workshop.
This first national call is a means to find out what is happening in the country outside the capital, in terms of creation, research and development of plastic languages. We seek to discover and document the processes of creation by young artists taking into account the context in which they develop their work. The selected artist will be provided the infrastructure to define, develop and fulfill a project that can adopt the following factors: experimentation with respect to their habitual artistic practice; production of a project; exhibition and/or intervention in a sector of the community.
Macolla is an open community that relies on the craft of various genres—painting, weaving, sculpting, producing images (graphic, photography, audiovisual), and performance, among others—as bridges to encourage reflection, strengthen solidarity and imagine responses to local and global problems. It promotes artistic production, supports the sustained training by the permanent work of the workshop, the projection of ideas and reflection about inhabited space. Its residency program provides a space to foster human bonds through projects, collaborations and articulations.
The dialogue between the organizers and the resident, the work of the workshop, the encounters with people on the day of the show, the moment of sharing food, are in a coexisting relationship, with openness to the emergence of exchanges and alliances for new projects.
The resident will share the space with the Macolla team, including all the steps related to the equipment of the spaces and the incorporation of people who voluntarily collaborate with the assembly, preparation of food, and cleaning, among other activities.
Macolla’s purpose is to record the work of Venezuelan creators, a project that aims to be a place of expression of the word and the work of those who do: the promoters of artistic and cultural management, and a space to explore and show the development of the plastic languages of young artists. The results of these meetings can be viewed at macollacreativa.com
