About Disruptions

The seventh edition of the Seminario Fundación Cisneros, Disruptions: Dilemmas Regarding the Image in Contemporaneity, took place on March 16, 2018, at Centro Cultural Chacao, in Caracas, Venezuela. The seminar focused on three specific themes covering the relationship between art and politics: The Place of Images; Historical Inventories, Body, and Activism; and New Media.

On this page you will find videos of the presentations and conversations from the day-long event, in addition to commissioned texts around the seminar's themes.

The Place of Images

Presentations by Erik del Búfalo, Marilé Di Filippo, and Gil Sansón, in addition to an article by Maria Virginia Jaua, cover the theme of understanding the use of images.

Historical Inventories, Body, and Activism

Activism and social protest throughout Latin America have marked significant moments in recent national histories. This theme is covered in presentations and text contributions by Miguel López, Elizabeth Marín Hernández, Sandra Pinardi, and Félix Suazo, among others.

New Media

Technologies, appropriation, and translation are all topics covered under this theme—that explores "new" forms of media—in presentations by Rosina Cazali, Leticia Obeid, Yucef Merhi, and Erly José Ruiz.
